The White Ring
A magical ski safari around the Arlberg
The White Ring is one of the things that makes skiing in the Arlberg region unique. The history of this ski safari – just like that of winter sports in Vorarlberg – starts many decades ago.
Let's go back to 1940. The first lifts has just been built in Lech and the village was slowly gaining a reputation as a winter destination.
At that time, much of the skiing terrain was not pisted, making skiing on the Arlberg a real adventure. But one man set out to "tame" the wild nature of the Alps: Sepp Bildstein.
Bildstein soon found a single route leading through Lech, Zürs and Oberlech – and promptly challenged anyone to ski this route quicker than he could.
With a total length of 22 kilometres and 5500 vertical metres of lifts, the White Ring today remains a popular sightseeing tour and has for several years also served as the route for the famous race of the same name.
Winter adventure over 22 kilometres
The White Ring starts just a matter of metres from the Hotel Plattenhof. It comprises five descents and seven lifts. Don't forget to stop off at the sightseeing platforms at the top of the Rüfikopf lift and at the Madloch lift to take in the magnificent views.
