History and tradition
From a B&B to a 4-Stars-Superior-Hotel
The village of Lech was founded in the 13th or 14th century. Nowadays the origins are not known anymore exactly. In those times only a few people even knew the community "Tannberg am Lech", which it was called then simply because the first settlers found a fir forest there on the river Lech. Rudolf Schneider, the ancestor of the Plattenhof builder, was born in the 15th century. Long before the "cradle of skiing" became what it is today. Time passed on and the original Schneider family used it to get to know every corner of the Arlberg region.
Knowing about the finest locations in Lech would finally pay off in 1965, when Rudolf and Karin Schneider decided to build a bed and breakfast with 25 beds in this location. The Plattenhof was built on the sunniest hill above the village of Lech, at that time still a little-known winter sports pearl. There Rudolf and his father Josef had previously bought the property on which the “Sonnenplatte” is located, with all of his savings - hence the name “Plattenhof”.
Made in Austria
1965 was the year the first guests were welcomed at the B&B in Lech. The continuous development of the ski-resort and the increasing number of visitors let us grow our offers. We now manage our Plattenhof as a 4-Stars-Superior-Hotel and are members of "Deluxe-Hotels Arlberg“. Since its inception the hotel has been owned by the same family. That is why tradition is very important to us and part of our mission and philosophy.
Up until now we made the following improvements for you:
- 60 cozy rooms & suites in Alpine style with lots of wood elements
- spacious bathrooms with separate toilets
- most of the balconies face the sunny south side
- well-stocked wine cellar
Roots
The roots of our family are deeply connected to the region and are always present. Hence you will find in our well-appointed rooms influences of ancient handicraft which shape the ambience and give authentic charme. The hallways and stair wells are filled with antique closets and chests and numerous precious items from past times. The personal touch with our guests has always been our heartfelt concern.
